Gary Hyatt

Since our last reunion I feel I've been in a surrealistic cave. My wife passed away in July of 1995. A terrible, terrible shock that no one was prepared for. Then Haywood was killed the following April. My dad passed away in August '97, and I had to transition my mom to Westledge soon after. Truthfully, these have been a difficult few years, probably the most difficult and stressful in my life.

The good news is, I retired and moved to Florida in late '96, and have been getting a life underway here. I've joined a couple of writing groups, traveled a lot last summer to several writing conferences, established a few new friendships, and spent a bunch of time working on and flying my airplane (see photo). I have kept in shape by running and backpacking. I hiked for the month of March on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia and North Carolina in March '97, and I backpacked in the Grand Canyon (twice) in 1998.

I'm looking forward to our reunion to see all of you again.
